DHAMALI by Srila Locana dasa Thakur
Translation by Gadadhara-prana Dasa.
From the book’s introduction :
“What is Dhamali?
Locana dãsa Thakura is Sri Narahari Sarkara's intimate disciple, and the reputed author of Sri Caitanya Mangala. Yet after writing this book, Narahari's desire remained unmitigated, for his specific focus on Sri Gauränga's intimate, madhura pastimes was still left undescribed. So, in order to give delight to his gurudeva and other rasika Gaura bhaktas, Locana dãsa composed Dhamali. The word Dhamali literally means ranga-rasikata or 'playful romanticism'. But herein, the playful romantic in question happens to be our Nadiyavinoda Sri Gauracand, portrayed as irresistibly sweet. Although many other mahajanas have touched on these topics, Locana's poetic skill puts him in a special category. For after sampling his heart-rending colloquial style of poetry, many readers will undoubtedly become hooked on Narahari's rasika mode of worshiping Sri Gaurangasundara.
In order to more fully relish Dhamali's Rasa; a commentary is included entitled Gaura-krpa-kanika, "A tidbit of Gaura's mercy”
